BE AMONG THE FIRST

Ipod broadcasting is a "hip" new medium for getting your message out. Podcast fever is sweeping the nation. This new technology allows you to share aspects of your theater production using audio.

WHAT ARE PODCASTS?

Think of it as "radio on demand." Programs of commentary, music or humor are saved in MP3 audio format and posted online. Listeners who subscribe to channels of various types are automatically notified when a new podcast is available.

Imagine the possibilities for your own theatrical podcast:

Author and performer interviews
Musical Selections
Audience reactions
Recordings of commentaries or reviews
Background for historical interest
Readings from the script

WHO IS LISTENING?

A survey released on April 3, 2005 by the Pew Internet and American Life Project showed that twenty-nine percent of U.S. adults who own MP3 players (for example, Apple Computer Inc.'s iPod) say they have downloaded podcast programs from the Internet. Millions of people are listening to a form of communication that emerged only last year.

Nearly half of digital-music player owners younger than 29 years old have tried out podcasts, the survey found, compared with 20 percent of those 29 or older. There were no differences between men and women, or broadband and dial-up users, the survey found.
